Which substance is dangerous?
Avocados contain persin, a fungicidal toxin that various pets tolerate badly; skin, stone and leaves hold the most, the flesh less but not none. Add the very high fat content, which upsets digestion and can strain the pancreas. The stone is also a swallowing hazard. Guacamole doubles the danger with onion and garlic.
How much is dangerous?
Sensitivity varies; a tiny lick of flesh often passes without harm, but larger amounts — or any nibbling on skin, stone or plant — are a case for caution. There is no reason to feed avocado at all.
